Parks and Culture
Petit Jean State Park
Petit Jean State Park is an Arkansas classic, a natural and historic treasure that has welcomed travelers for decades. The natural beauty and ancient geology of the legendary Petit Jean Mountain inspired the creation of Arkansas’s first state park and with it our state park system. The park mirrors the mountain’s rugged beauty with its rustic-style, native log and stone facilities constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) beginning in 1933. The CCC built trails, roads, bridges, cabins, and the focal point of the park, historic Mather Lodge, a 24-room lodge overlooking Cedar Creek Canyon with a restaurant, meeting rooms, and gift shop. The fireplace in the lobby serves as a welcoming gathering place in the winter.
Lake Dardanelle State Park
This park is located in two areas on Lake Dardanelle, a 34,300-acre reservoir on the Arkansas River. The main site is in Russellville where you’ll find the Sport Fishing Weigh-in Pavilion, a fishing pier, swimming beach, boardwalk, trail, and visitor center with five aquariums, and the Lakeview Room meeting facility. Park interpreters lead a variety of programs and lake tours.
Mount Nebo State Park
Situated in the Arkansas River Valley just 45 minutes from Arkansas Wine Country, this state park sits atop the 1,350-foot Mount Nebo. The 1930s-era Civilian Conservation Corps constructed many of the rustic-style cabins, pavilions, bridges, and 32.6 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Cabin 1 was the first cabin rental in state park history.

Stonebridge Meadows Golf Club in Fayetteville, which offers an 18-hole course with stunning views of the Ozark Mountains and excellent course conditions, making it a popular choice for golf enthusiasts.
Local Hunting and Fishing
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission offers some of the best hunting and fishing opportunities around. The agency has acquired and purchased land to offer outdoor enthusiasts places to hunt, fish and enjoy the great outdoors. These designated areas are set aside by the Commission and distinguished by certain markers. Each WMA is considered a separate zone with regard to wildlife regulations. With more than 100 wildlife management areas spanning thousands of acres, the AGFC offers nearly every Arkansan ample opportunity to enjoy the outdoors close to home.
Nimrod Lake
The lake is best known among anglers for its “slab” crappie fishing. Other major game fish available include largemouth bass, bream, catfish and white bass, but the crappie fishing is unbeatable. Several stores and bait shops along the lake sell camping, fishing and hunting supplies.

Plainview has a charming city park that’s ideal for family picnics, walks, and outdoor play. The park offers open spaces for various recreational activities and a playground for children.
